Youth

FORD-KENYA believes in inter-generational equity and will endeavour to correct the imbalances of unfair policies that exclude youth’s full participation and engagement.


FORD-KENYA will strive to ensure:

1. Youth receive proper education to prepare them for the leadership roles from an early age

2. Leadership mentoring process begins at the earliest stage of learning

3. The Children’s Act is fully implemented

4. Political education is introduced in schools to nurture well informed youth on the governance system of the country

5. Education system is urgently revised to address the plight of the youth and enhance research and the promotion of technical education for rapid national development

6. The Ministry for Youth Affairs develops a comprehensive policy to address Youth Welfare

7. Freedom of expression is expanded not criminalized in schools

8. Affirmative Action includes support for the representation of youth in higher organs of governance

9. School leaving youth attend the National Youth Service to procure basic livelihood skills

10. An integrated national youth development plan is formulated to enrich support for youth affairs and activities

11. Collaboration and cooperation systems are built between the youth and various stake-holders to integrate planning on mutual issues

12. Provision of Identity Cards and Voters cards are organized simultaneously in schools, colleges etc. to empower them as citizens and voters

13. Youth are encouraged to undergo regular medical check-ups to remain health

14. The political parties’ bill provide financial support to parties that have programmes promoting meaningful youth participation within party leadership and decision-making processes

15. Empower the youth to get skills and engage in entrepreneurship or enter the Jua Kali sector

16. Establish an enterprise fund to give loans for start up businesses

17. Stop child labour and enforce punitive penalties for offenders

18. Increase the amount of bursary funds for state-sponsored students to universities

19. Start a national radio program for youth to articulate their ideas on issues

20. Impose ceilings on election expenditures for parties during elections so as not to lock out youth
