Public Transport

At the moment there is no meaningful transport policy in the country, the public is at the mercy of largely uncoordinated and expensive privately operated public transport system. The upsurge of Boda Boda and Tuk-tuk transport are not better alternatives to public transport.


Jetties and piers in many coastal and inland ports on Lake Victoria have collapsed. Similarly they need heavy investment to attract water transport services to attract tourism.


FORD-KENYA will:


1. Modernize and expand all existing road networks to ease traffic congestions and accelerate mobility

2. Privatize some road, railway, water and air services to accelerate economic development

3. Impose strict restrictions on the use of highways by heavy trucks and lower tonnage of transit goods by on the roads

4. Encourage truck owners to invest in railway transport as an alternative and safer way of conveying goods to long destinations

5. Improve and expand railway services for haulage of heavy luggage and passenger transport

6. Rebuild all dormant and dilapidated sea and inland ports to revive steamship services

7. Modernize aerodromes in all districts in Kenya to encourage air travel
