Chapter Five
Health
Healthcare is an important function of any government in the developing world. A healthy population is a wealthy investment for any third world government.
FORD-KENYA while respecting private medical providers will transform the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) into a primary health provider for all Kenyans. NHIF contributions will be revised upwards introducing separate packages for high income earners who otherwise take the money to private medical operators.
We will endeavour that NHIF:
1. Takes over curative and management roles in all district and provincial hospitals in the country and the national referral centers
2. De-centralizes and specializes National Referral centers to improve service delivery
3. Relocate maternity and child care units from general hospitals and run them as special units away from the risk of contagious diseases from in/out-patients wards
4. Ensures that every Local Authority in the country provides medical services to the community
5. Partners with the Ministry of Health to support universities and MTCs to produce high quality personnel to man our specialized medical institutions to attract health tourism in the country
6. Separate evacuation services from other health services and run them on provincial and district basis with ground, water and air services under specialized personnel
7. Support faith-based hospitals on the basis of local population density and poverty index
8. Provide free Anti-Retrovirals to HIV/AIDS patients
