13. ENERGY

The future of this country in actualizing the dream of industrializing depends on the cost of energy. The growth of our industries, the transformation of our Jua Kali into formal units hence the creation of jobs, conversion of valuable materials/products and finally the creation of wealth are all closely associated with energy costs Presently the country is operating at the 20% of its total energy requirements. This has been a serious hindrance to the growth of our industrial base. Over 70% of the country’s population still depends on fuel wood and yet there is no policy on forestry for domestic fuel. A FORD-People led government would like a Kenya where her energy requirements are met, energy sources are sustainable and are cheaply exploited and made a viable engine of growth of the industrial sector. A FORD-People led government will implement the following:

▪ Put in place a policy that will involve people participation in policy developments in the energy sector…

▪ Emphasize the production of renewable energies particularly energies such as bio fuels supply including bio diesel, bio gas cogeneration etc

▪ Promote energy efficiency and seek to fully open up the energy sector with a view to creating jobs while at the same time enhancing rural electrification programmes.

▪ Continue with exploration of oil and gas

▪ Encourage the tapping of energy resource from our neighbours

▪ Provide tax incentives for industry players to invest in renewable energies.

▪ Encourage the application of renewable energies including solar, wind and wave energies

▪ Promote the utilization of waste for energy production thereby ensuring cleaner environment in keeping with international requirements on greenhouse gases

▪ Put in place a policy on a forestation with special focus on fuel wood to address domestic energy needs as well tackling the greenhouse issues.
